Commodities & International Trade Disputes

Our Commodities and International Trade Practice advises international commodity producers, purchasers, traders, industrial end-users, and financial institutions on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious matters, including the extraction, production, manufacturing, sale and/or purchase of various commodities including oil, gas, metals, coal, agricultural products, chemicals and renewables.

We have significant experience in all types of commodities and international trade disputes, such as disputes relating to mining, farmout agreements, price (including price reviews), quality, delivery schedules, force majeure claims, trade finance, logistics, insurance and fraud. As these disputes often involve an economic, technical and/or international dimension, we also regularly work with industry experts to assist in case analysis and presentation where necessary.

We are able to represent clients both in the Singapore courts (including the Singapore International Commercial Court) and before arbitral tribunals. We have experience with complex and high-value commodities and international trade arbitrations under all of the major arbitration rules, including Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). We also handle arbitration-related court proceedings, including the setting aside and enforcement of arbitral awards and obtaining urgent interim relief.

Our market-leading team is equally adept at winning for clients in court or arbitration and strategising to achieve commercial outcomes which preserve reputations and valuable business relationships.
